Who am I? Warm energy. Full of smiles. Positive vibe. And, I’m a huge animal lover! So much so, I have two gorgeous large dogs who make my days editing photos at home so snuggly and playful. I also have a husband and an awesome son, and we live in beautiful Cochrane, AB, close to the Rocky Mountains.
My approach to photography is capturing “who” you are. Your story is everything - and I love to tell that story through images. No matter the purpose of your session, my intention is to capture the relationship you have with those in your photos - your partner, your family, your friends, the environment and yourself. It’s about finding your “spice of life” and capturing that very moment.
While being raised by a photo-journalist mother in England, I was immersed in photography from a young age. Yet, after moving to Canada after high school, I pursued other interests: I attained a B. A. in Psychology and also a B.Ed., enabling me to do counselling work with children and youth in schools. I taught Musical Theatre, Drama and Dance to children at various organizations. My love for the stage led me to work in the music industry for many years as a DJ, playing music and entertaining at weddings, corporate events, at the award-winning Ranchman’s Cookhouse & Dancehall, and at the legendary Nashville North at the Calgary Stampede. After my son was born in 2010, my passion for photography was ignited, and oh, what a wonderful reason to be inspired! In 2011, I founded Michelle Spice Photography, won Calgary’s Capture Wow Photography Contest and have been a busy photographer ever since!
While I love to photograph weddings, families, professionals, events and boudoir, my work in the music industry has paved the way for me to photograph many amazing emerging and established singer-songwriters. I’ve worked with Aaron Goodvin, Chad Brownlee, The Road Hammers, Hunter Brothers, The Washboard Union, Tebey, Dan + Shay, Randy Houser, Alan Doyle (Great Big Sea), Johnny Reid and many more! Some other career highlights include being nominated for a Canadian Country Music Award (CCMA) in 2024 for my photography work in the country music industry, working at the 2019 Canadian Country Music Awards as a staff photographer, and also photographing the Country Music Alberta Awards in 2018, 2019, 2023 & 2024. I am happy to say that photography is my full-time career, and I’m so excited to be doing my dream job! Somebody pinch me, lol!
I would love to chat with you about your photography needs, and I hope we can work together. Thank you for reading! Have a wonderful day!
Michelle xo
